Kit number 90 in Tamiya’s 1/72 Warbirds line, it follows the mould of every modern Tamiya kit. Great engineering, flawless fit and good levels of detail and accuracy, though not as visually comprehensive as an Eduard kit might be, and well-printed but overly thick decals. 

Started in late 2019, this was the first aircraft kit I tucked into on returning to the hobby. Planned as an easy, no-surprises means of getting my groove back, two years on at the time of writing (early 2021, when this site went live), it would seem I lost that plot. 

Aside from some Master Model brass barrels and pitot tube, this is an out-of-the-box build of the box art scheme — Ofw. Elias Kuhlein’s distinctive aircraft as flown with 4./JG51in the skies over Radomir, Bulgaria in June 1944, featuring eagles eyes painted on the beules either side of the forward fuselage,
